The objective of this study was to compare the school coexistence in two educational institutions, one teaching with tenderness and the another one under the traditional educational system, in the district of Santiago de Surco, Lima-Perú. Descriptive and comparative study using the “ECEAIS Scale to evaluate school coexistence”. Sample size of 200 students from first and second year of secondary school, and between 11 and 13 years during 2017. The scale has five dimensions (student-student relationship, teacher-student relationship, social coexistence rules, conflict in the classroom and self-discipline). It was validated by factor analysis and expert judgment, and subsequently adapted to the local context, based on a school coexistence scale from Spain. Data analysis were performed using descriptive statistics, the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test and the Mann Whitney U test. It was found statistically significant differences in the teacher-student relationship dimension, social coexistence rules dimension and self-discipline dimension, after using the ECEAIS Scale to evaluate school coexistence between the institution teaching with tenderness and the institution under the traditional educational system. These differences were in favor of the traditional educational system. Teaching with tenderness allows a healthy school coexistence as well as the traditional educational system. It is important to evaluate school coexistence using an adapted instrument to the local context, such as the ECEAIS Scale.
