In the present study the relationship between emotional intelligence (S.I.) and attitudes towards violent behavior in high school students of an educational institution of the district of San Martin de Porres described. They participated in the study 187 students, of both sexes, aged 11 to 17 years, from 1st to 5th secondary educational institution a district of San Martin de Porres, Lima city. The scope of the research is correlational, the technique of selection of participants, used was probability sampling. NA: The questionnaire of attitudes toward Violence (CAHV-28) and Emotional Intelligence Inventory ICE Baron was applied. The application of the instrument was performed in a group. The results show that the relationship between emotional intelligence and attitudes towards violence is low and reverse (negative) and significant with a critical value at the level of p <0.01, ie greater emotional intelligence of students in the sample investigated less available to present violent attitudes. Likewise, the ratio of component intrapersonal I.E. with attitudes toward violence as a form of entertainment, as a way to feel better, as a way of managing the social relationship and as legitimate, they are negative, close to zero, its critical values are not significant at p <0.05 level. Referring to intrapersonal component I.E. to further development of this component (emotional self-understanding, self-concept, assertiveness, self-realization and independence) less tendency toward violent behavior. Also the relationship of interpersonal component (empathy, interpersonal relationships and social responsibility) and component mood of the S.I. (Happiness and optimism) with the four forms of violence of the sample, have less predisposition towards violent behavior. We can also infer that a good development component of adaptability (problem solving, reality testing and flexibility) less prone to violent behavior. Regarding the management of stress (stress tolerance and impulse control) is low and negative, it means that students do not have the tools to deal with stress which could predispose to violent behavior. Finally we can say that the proper development of the S.I. It contributes to the inhibition of violent behavior.
