This study aims to identify humor translation strategies applied in subtitles of an American comedy film containing different types of humor. The theoretical framework for this study is Fuentes Luque’s humor translation strategies and theories on types of humor. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed in this study, along with an instrumental case study design. Corpus analysis was used as a data collection technique, and a validated analysis sheet containing two variables, types of humor, and humor translation strategies was used to analyze the data. The film Easy A was chosen as the textual universe of this study, and the specific corpus consisted of 46 analysis units. As a result, the most frequently used strategy was literal translation 73.9%, followed by explanatory translation 17.9%, and effective or functional translation 8.7%, which led us to conclude that the most commonly used strategy was literal translation since it allows the transfer of humor, as the samples contained a humor level easy to understand for the target viewer. Explanatory translation was used less frequently since the humor level is lost when employing this strategy. Finally, effective or functional translation was the least frequently used since the reformulation of humor samples was unnecessary to transfer humor.
