Metabolic syndrome today is considered its own pathology and is characterized by the sum of various laboratory and clinical factors, which is included as an important risk factor for developing cardiovascular diseases, hypertension and diabetes mellitus - 2. Due to the increase in prevalence of the disease is that nowadays it is the reason for many studies. Objective: The objective of this study is to determine the factors that are associated with the development of metabolic syndrome in health personnel of a medical center that seeks to generate new determinations that promptly prevent this pathology. Method: an analytical, descriptive, cross-sectional, retrospective and observational type is carried out, the size of the study population in the study was 74, the workers use methods to see if there is or is not an association between the variables studied through the confidence interval at 95 %, the chi square and the Odds Ratio. Results: using the diagnostic criteria of the “National Cholesterol Education Program (NCEP), Adult Treatment Panel (ATP)“ NCEP ATPIII of metabolic syndrome the prevalence of metabolic syndrome in health workers of the metropolitan medical center Es salud - cusco of the year 2019 was 40.5%, workers with 1 and 2 risk factors were 39.2% and those without any risk factor 20.3%, the largest population was female 73% of these 23% presented metabolic syndrome, in relation to By age, the largest population was between the ages of 30 and 59 with 61%, with respect to BMI overweight workers represented 40.5% and with some degree of obesity 23% of both groups 39.2% had metabolic syndrome; Regarding tobacco, 87.8% of workers do not smoke but even so, 31.15% present metabolic syndrome, regarding alcohol consumption, 10.8% drink alcohol frequently, 1.4% consume it occasionally, in these groups 29.75% presented metabolic syndrome; In relation to working hours, it is observed that 62.2% of the workers work between 8 to 12 hours a day, 31.2% present metabolic syndrome; In relation to the type of diet, 87.8% consume foods rich in calories, of which 31.1% presented metabolic syndrome, The level of stress present in this study was 94.6% low. Of this group, 37.8% presented metabolic syndrome; the level of knowledge in the workers was high with 94.6% passing, 39.2% presented metabolic syndrome; In relation to the level of exercise, 13% perform physical activities >30 min; Regarding the type of work, the largest population of workers were doctors with 31.1% of these, 13.5% presented metabolic syndrome, the other predominant group is administrative with 21.6% of them, 9.5% presented metabolic syndrome, technical personnel with a 18.9% of these 8.1% presented metabolic syndrome, nurses were 16.2% of them with metabolic syndrome were 16.2%, the others represented 12.2% of workers; Regarding the hours of sleep, most workers sleep more than 8 hours, 52.7% of these, 21.6% present metabolic syndrome; 12.2% had hyperglycemia, 50% had hypertriglyceridemia, 9.5% had arterial hypertension, 55% of the male population had a waist circumference >102 and 63% of the female population had a waist circumference >88cm; Regarding HDL in men, it was observed that 60% presented HDL>40 and of these, 45% presented metabolic syndrome, women presented HDL-<50, 38.9% of these, 25.9% presented metabolic syndrome. Conclusion: 40.5% of the workers presented metabolic syndrome, sex, BMI, tobacco, alcohol, the type of work and the type of diet represent for this study a risk factor for developing metabolic syndrome.
