The study conducted at the Educational Institution 60196 Amelia Souza Freitas de Salazar in Barrio Florido highlights the need to implement strategies to develop research skills, especially in the area of Science, Technology and Environment. The objective of this research was: To determine the impact of the development of research skills in the construction of inquiry-based learning in high school students. The research was classified as descriptive. The common approach used was non-experimental, and the specific design adopted was cross-sectional descriptive. The population consisted of 120 secondary level students belonging to the educational institution 60196. The sample was selected using the sampling design applied to populations with less than 1500 individuals, resulting in the participation of 92 students. The sample was selected randomly and unintentionally. The results show that 13% have poor research skills, 80% have fair skills and 7% have good skills. Although they have a good level in communication and problematization, they present difficulties in data analysis. No significant relationship was found between research skills (cognitive, p=0.9269; procedural, p=0.7487) and inquiry learning. There is a need to improve “data analysis“ performance to strengthen procedural skills.
