The study analyzed the alternative of using rainwater for human consumption in San Regis community, Nauta district, province and department of Loreto, located on the Marañón river, near to the equator line. The demand was determined of system through monthly precipitation. Family demand was estimated based on the latest INEI population census with 211 families. San Regis has a unimodal rainfall regime with minimum values of 150 mm, with a high water potential throughout the year. The effective area of the stream is 32.56 Has, which provides atmospheric water potential of more than 107,000 m3. The population demand of San Regis is at least 3924.6 m3/month, which represents only 3% of what the earth-atmosphere system provides us, which is sustainable. The design of the rainwater harvesting system includes a metal roof, gutters, pipes, a chlorination system, a ram pump and a storage system for its subsequent distribution within the home. The unit cost per family is S/. 13856.00 soles, well below the private market.
