Stroke is a disease with high prevalence and incidence. The sequelae of stroke are often disabling, compromising levels of functional independence and patients' quality of life. Currently, physical therapy is one of the main treatments used in the management to help patients regain their autonomy. Objectives: The main objective was to determine the impact of physical therapy on the functional dependence of patients with stroke sequelae. Methodology: This was an analytical correlational study with a longitudinal design, which included 158 patients who had stroke sequelae and completed their physical therapy sessions. Results: It was found that at the end of all the prescribed physical therapy sessions, there was a significant improvement in the average level of functional dependence, from 28.08 (SD ± 11.07) to 79.11 (SD ± 11.60) (p < 0.001), according to the Barthel scale. Conclusion: Physical therapy had a positive impact on the functional dependence of patients with stroke sequelae.
