The objective of this thesis, in the wide perspective, is to identify the volunteer work impact on the empowerment sustainable tourism in Cusco during the years 2015 – 2016. And in a particular way, it determines the profile of the volunteer who develops their projects in Cusco. On the other hand, it will be essential to identify how to improve sustainable tourism in Cusco city and to demonstrate the relationship of volunteer work and sustainable tourism inside the city. This is a non-experimental explicative- research; the study population was tourists who visit Cusco with the purpose of performing as a complement the tourist activities or specific and particular form to some kind of volunteer work. The study sample was 36 volunteers from different volunteer projects such as education, health care and environmental. They were chosen randomly. The analyzed data comes from a survey that was applied to the sample. In this thesis, the volunteer work impact on enhancing sustainable tourism in Cusco was identified during the years 2015 - 2016. Concluding that this impact is positive because Voluntourism activity helps to facilitate the understanding of tourism impacts in the environment, cultural and human environment. Offering activities that can be enjoyed by the local community and tourists. It also improves the volunteer’s self-esteem in order to help needy population within the educational, medical and environmental areas. Furthermore, it provides the opportunity to make greater communication and understanding between people from different backgrounds. All these features contribute to build sustainable tourism.
