The objective of the research work was the characterization of the solid waste of the entire institution, which presents an inadequate management of the solid waste generated by its educational community. In this sense, a diagnosis was made to know the current management of waste, based on two topics: The generation of solid waste, which includes information on the GPC, compacted and uncompacted density, and the generation of these in their classification. . And the information collected from the population studied through surveys. Using an explanatory type methodology and descriptive design according to Goode and Hatt, where the “M“ corresponds to the generation of waste within the I.E.P.M. N° 64194 “VIRGEN DE FÁTIMA and “O” are the actions for the elaboration of the research work; on which the descriptive observations were made. Obtaining as results the 0.122 Kg/inhabitant/day of generation per capita, which is calculated that the institution in the morning and afternoon shift generates 287,408 kg per week. With an average compacted density of 27,637 kg/m3. These results allowed us to direct the proposal for the solid waste management plan; which contains policies, goals and strategies to minimize the generation of solid waste.
