The objective of this research is to determine the relationship that exists between parenting styles and academic performance in students of the 5th grade of a public institution, Iquitos 2019. It is a study of correlational descriptive design, quantitative type. For this, an intentional or convenience non-probabilistic sample was made up of 128 students from the 5th grade of secondary school. To carry out this research, the Steinberg Parenting Styles Scale and the Teachers' Grade Record were used. When analyzing the results, in the relationship between Parenting Styles and academic performance, p <0.05 was found, which shows that among the variables, there is a significant association with a confidence level of 0.95. As for the first variable; parenting styles, the following results were obtained: 52.3% of the students perceive a permissive parenting style from their parents, 29.7% authoritative parenting style, while 6.3% a negligent or authoritarian parenting style and 5.5% a mixed parenting style. In academic performance, it was found that 56.3% of the students have an academic performance of normal level, 29.7% of medium level, and 14.1% of low level. Likewise, it was found in the commitment dimension 29.7% of the medium level have normal academic performance and 11.7% of the high level of commitment have high level academic performance. It was also found in the Behavioral Control dimension, 50.8% of the low level has normal academic performance and 29.7% of the medium level of Behavioral Control has high academic performance. Finally, it was found in the dimension Psychological Autonomy 39.1% of the low level has academic performance of normal level and 7.0% of the high level of Psychological Autonomy has academic performance of high level.
