The objective of this study was to determine the nursing diagnoses and their relationship with some factors in adults with controlled and uncontrolled diabetes. A descriptive, prospective, transversal and correlational design was used. The sample consisted of 129 patients with diabetes. Data were collected using a structured instrument and the MoriskyGreen Test (Alpha Crombach reliability of 0.93). The data were processed in the statistical program SPSS version 22. The findings show that the most frequent real nursing diagnoses were poor knowledge (74.4%), sedentary lifestyle (71.3%) and ineffective management of the health (69.0%). The risk nursing diagnoses were the risk of ineffective peripheral tissue perfusion (76.0%), risk of ineffective renal perfusion and risk of unstable glycemia level (75.2% respectively), observing significant statistical differences between adults with controlled diabetes and uncontrolled (p = 0.001). Three quarters were adults with uncontrolled diabetes mellitus with an average age of 59.6 + 12.8 years, married marital status, higher education, two thirds still work and reside in urban areas. Half of the population has a disease time greater than 10 years, more than two thirds are hypertensive and are overweight and obese. Likewise, diabetic foot, retinopathy and nephropathy are the most frequent complications in the uncontrolled population (p = 0.005).
