The study aimed to determine the variables associated with the perception of the quality of nursing care from the perspective of the patient. The quantitative method was used with non-experimental, prospective, descriptive and corrective design. The sample was composed of 239 patients hospitalized in the area of surgery. Data were collected through the instrument, questionnaire patient's perception with the nursing care adapted from Ortega's study. Data were processed using the SPSS version 22 statistical program. Results: 73.6% were intermediate adults, predominantly males, 49.0% attended secondary school, 58.6% were independent, 81.6% had SPSS , 79.9% were between 1 and 2 patients, 63.3 were hospitalized at least once and 25.0% were polytraumatic patients. Overall, the art of care, technical quality, availability, continuity and care outcomes showed high perception (88.3%), the only dimension that low scores were the physical environment (11.7%). The variables that showed a positive or direct association with the dimensions of care, continuity and results were age, educational level and number of patients per hospital unit (p <0.05).
