This research allowed to determine the Sustainability of the Drinking Water System in the Choquepata Population Center, Oropesa District, Quispicanchi province, Cusco department. For the present research, it was necessary to improve the PROPÍLAS methodology, which consists of collecting the data from the populated center through surveys with previously improved formats as well as prepared and updated for the different factors such as the state of the system (coverage, quantity, continuity, quality and condition of the infrastructure), in addition, the management of services and operation and maintenance. This research was based on the PROPILAS methodology, which was improved and updated with the norms and regulations in force in accordance with the sanitation sector in the rural area of Peru, it mainly consists of carrying out the diagnosis of the drinking water system with its respective collection of information on the area under study, to then determine the sustainability index of the system, in simpler words it is to find the sufficiency and / or capacity of the system under study in offering and providing an adequate service to the beneficiaries during the period for which it was designed, using the methodological proposal raised in the present investigation. Thus, the following sustainability index is found: For the sustainability index of the system in general, which provides the drinking water service in the Choquepata town center, an index of 2.79, which indicates a regular state and in the process of deterioration; Regarding the state of the system, an index of 3.03 was found, which indicates a regular state and in the process of deterioration; Regarding management, an index of 2.71 was found, which indicates a regular state and in the process of deterioration; For operation and maintenance, an index of 2.37 was found, which indicates that it is in bad condition and in a serious process of deterioration. In general, the studied system is in a regular state and in a process of deterioration. In the same way, it has been determined that the improvement of the methodology used is reliable and, furthermore, this information makes it possible to reduce the margin of misinformation that currently exists about the drinking water system in the populated center, in order that those directly responsible take more timely decisions and improve the service in favor of the beneficiaries.
