In the present investigation it is explained how the application of non-destructive tests in the conveyor belt influences its availability with the objective of increasing its estimated life time after suffering several damages throughout its constitution, this need deserves a support from technical as well as economic point of view. The overland belt under analysis is located in the mining deposit of Minera Chinalco Peru, it fulfills the main function of transporting the mineral from the crushing plant to the concentrator plant, where it is processed according to the type of mineral extracted. Every large- scale mining site has at least one transportation system (conveyor belts) and due to its great importance in the operational process, it is necessary to cover all the controls in order to keep it available, and therefore comply with the processing program. monthly. It must be borne in mind that the fall of a chute liner, a metallic element typical of mine operations or the overflow of ore from the transfer chute would cause damage to the conveyor belt. The results of this investigation favor the operating company of the conveyor belt whose operation is related to production and whose stoppage causes large economic losses. Likewise, the operating, maintenance and inspection personnel would be safer during the operation of the belt knowing that it presents an adequate availability of operation. Various monitoring equipment’s are available on the market to ensure the optimal functioning of the conveyor belt. Before its implementation, it must be evaluated which ones are adequate according to its operational condition; In turn, keep in mind that installing monitoring equipment warns to increase the number of failure modes which require to be entered into an annual scheduled maintenance plan. After the study and implementation of the monitoring equipment, the historical data must be followed up, this information is valuable when making important decisions, under no reason should these security elements be bypassed since security is violated operation of the conveyor belt causing the non-recognition of hidden failures, many times this type of failure causes damage to other components of the system. The inspection by means of NDT techniques to the conveyor belt with the presence of damages will influence its useful life time; This knowledge of the damage gives us a clear picture of the condition of the conveyor belt, it will allow its work under certain operating parameters that allow us to have an availability of 90% in the crushing plant, greater than 80% that would be working with the damaged girdle Data collection is carried out periodically, always taking advantage of scheduled stops and characterizing the damage; thus obtaining references of continuity of criticalities and if new damages appear.
