A distribution center is a logistics space where goods are received and stored and outbound orders are prepared for distribution to the wholesale or retail trade. Automated distribution centers are considered difficult to maintain, therefore, a large percentage of their execution is not performed by internal personnel; maintenance programs are performed according to manufacturer's manuals and there is a lack of specialized people to maintain automated systems. However, despite the fact that preventive maintenance is carried out at scheduled frequencies, equipment failures are constantly recorded. This research report is oriented to improve preventive maintenance plan of critical equipment in an automated distribution center using reliability engineering as an analysis tool. The development sequence of this report contains: Determination of critical equipment, identification of failure modes and effects, calculation of reliability, determination of the life cycle of critical equipment, calculation of mean time between failures, calculation of maintainability , calculation of availability and analysis of results; managing to improve the preventive maintenance plan by increasing reliability as a consequence of assigning a new time between preventive maintenance for critical equipment.
