This research article explores occupational segregation in Peru between 2008 and 2022, focusing on the influence of mother tongue on job distribution in the Lima Metropolitan Area and urban Arequipa. Utilizing data from the National Household Survey, the study examines the relationship between mother tongue and employment across various occupational groups. Through multinomial logistic regression analysis, the study evaluates the impact of variables such as educational level and work experience on employability. The findings reveal that speakers of indigenous mother tongues are more likely to occupy lower-tier jobs, although this trend has shown variation over time. Recommendations include promoting higher education completion to mitigate occupational segregation and implementing policies that recognize cultural diversity. The study underscores the importance of addressing occupational segregation based on mother tongue and suggests incorporating additional sociocultural factors in future research.
