The objective of this research work is that motivation is reflected in everything that drives the individual to carry out actions and persevere in them until the realization of their established objectives. Academic performance is the way of measuring the person's abilities, which shows how much they have learned during their training. It is also defined as the ability to respond to educational stimuli and that can be analyzed based on previously established training purposes. The general objective of this study was: To determine what relationship exists between motivation and academic performance of students in the Social Sciences area of fourth grade of secondary education at the IE Felipe Santiago Estenos de Chaclacayo, 2021. The study has a quantitative approach, of a correlational-descriptive type. The population was made up of 124 students, from which a sample of 50 of them was taken. Among the results, it was confirmed that motivation is at a medium level with 56% and the academic performance of the students is at an expected achievement level with 58%. In addition, it was found that in the intrinsic motivation dimension, students have an average level with 52%, while in the extrinsic motivation dimension, an average level was found with 60%. Therefore, it is concluded that there is a direct relationship between motivation and the academic performance of students.
