The objective of this research work was the quantitative and experimental approach that addresses the problem of the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic generated on the socio-emotional competence of students majoring in Literature - Spanish Language at a public university. The thesis student has used as an instrument the Socio-Emotional Competence Scale (ECSE), which has as dimensions emotional competence, which includes the subdimensions; emotional knowledge and emotional regulation. On the other hand, the social competence dimension, which in turn is comprised of the capacities for participation, empathy, as well as conflict resolution. The validation and reliability of the instrument was based on expert opinion whose average rating was 88.75. The data obtained through the instrument (ECSE) were processed by the statistical software SPSS version 25. Likewise, the analysis corresponding to the complete reliability of the scale was used, in the same way with its dimensions. In this way, the internal consistency index was calculated with the help of Cronbach's alpha coefficient, where the Alpha coefficient obtained was 0.772. To test the hypothesis, the Kolmogorow test was performed using the SPSS program, obtaining the following result: p=0.838, that is, the distribution of the data is normal. To compare the means between both pretest and posttest tests, the t-test of related samples was continued, obtaining a significance level of 0.05. In conclusion, the research showed that the first variable, called the COVID-19 pandemic, had a very significant impact on the socio-emotional competence of students specializing in Literature-Spanish Language at a public university.
