This study evaluated the potential of crushed porous basalt (CPB) as a stabilizing material to improve the bearing capacity (CBR) of the subgrade in an 20.35 km section of the Francisco Inka Road, Huarochirí, Lima. The road, unpaved and with low traffic volume, presented clayey and silty soils with low bearing capacity. Soil samples were extracted at a depth of 1.50 meters at three strategic points along the section. Laboratory tests were conducted to determine the optimum moisture content, maximum dry density, and CBR of the samples, both in their natural state and with different CPB dosages (14%, 21%, 28%, and 34%). The results showed that the addition of CPB significantly increased the CBR, reaching a maximum value of 17.43% with a dosage of 22%. Additionally, an increase in optimum moisture content and a decrease in maximum dry density were observed as the percentage of CPB increased. It is concluded that crushed porous basalt is a viable and sustainable alternative to improve the bearing capacity of subgrade soils in unpaved roads, recommending the determination of the optimal dosage for each specific case.
