This study aims to analyze the intergenerational transmission of education from parents to their offspring through time in the South subregion of the Andean Highland region of Peru based on results from the 2018 National Household Survey. Four groups of people born in the Andean Highland region were analyzed: people born in the decades of 1950, 1960, 1970 and 1980. Basically, it is proposed that, with time, the intergenerational effect of parents’ educational attainment is smaller when establishing their children’s educational attainment. Furthermore, the influence of the mother’s educational attainment on her offspring’s educational attainment was determined in this study. It was proposed that the mother’s educational attainment has a bigger influence on her offspring’s educational attainment than the father’s educational attainment. Lastly, the influence of belonging to the South subregion on the determination of the child’s educational attainment was also determined in this study. It was proposed that belonging to the South subregion contributes positively to the children achieving higher levels of educational attainment in comparison to the children belonging to the other subregions. To test these hypotheses, an ordered logit model was used, which measures the effect of independent variables on the probability of occurrence of an event, defined by the dependent variable. It was found that, with time, the influence of parents’ education is smaller in the determination of her offspring’s educational attainment. Moreover, it was found that the mother’s education is less influential on the determination of her offspring’s educational attainment than the father’s education. Lastly, it was found that belonging to the South subregion facilitates the children achieving higher educational attainment levels than the children belonging to the other subregions of the Andean Highland region.
