The following study aimed to determine the in vitro antimicrobial effect of the hydroalcoholic extract of the leaves of Columellia obovata Ruiz & Pav. “Pisca pisca” against strains of Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 and Escherichia coli ATCC 25922. In vitro experimental study, cross-sectional, explanatory level, applied type, quantitative approach and hypothetical deductive method. The population was composed of 24 culture media of the ATCC strains. Six groups were used, four experimental groups induced by the extract of Columellia obovata Ruiz & Pav. and controls to gentamicin and physiological saline. To collect data, the agar diffusion method in wells was used, a test that allowed measuring the in vitro susceptibility of the bacteria. The analysis of results was carried out in the SSPS version 25 program, through the Kruskal Wallis statistical test; p<0.05. It was determined that the antimicrobial effect of the hydroalcoholic extract of the leaves of Columellia obovata Ruiz & Pav. “Pisca pisca” at 25% concentrations; fifty%; 75% and 100% showed diameters of inhibition zones in Staphylococcus aureus cultures, with values 11.84 ± 2.51mm; 14.65±1.49mm; 16.75±2.65mm; 18.17 ± 3.48 mm respectively; compared to Gentamicin 34.10 ± 0.79mm. On the other hand, it did not present inhibitory activity against Escherichia coli ATCC 25922 at all concentrations studied and the phytochemical assay identified the presence of phenolic compounds, flavonoids, tannins, anthraquinones, alkaloids and saponins. It is concluded that the hydroalcoholic extract of Columellia obovata leaves demonstrated antimicrobial effect against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923.
