OBJETIVE: To describe the high levels of the preoperative neutrophil / lymphocyte ratio in patients with stage II breast cancer and their mortality at 3 years in the Hospital Cayetano Heredia III-1 2000-2015. METHODOLOGY: It’s an observational study, descriptive of the retrospective type with analysis of secondary data. It includes 73 medical records of patients who have had breast cancer stage II with surgical treatments between 2000 to 2015, realized in the institution. RESULTS: Of the 73 patients we found a media of 1.67, in the neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio. We had 28.76% of patients that are 46-50 years,28.57% of this ratio died in a period of 3 years after the operation, and they had presented a ratio of 1.61. Also we found that the neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio of 2 up to 2.49 presented 12 deaths that represented 16.43% of the total of population in the study. CONCLUSIONS: There is a high percentage of deaths in patients with breast cancer with a high rank of neutrophil / lymphocyte ratio at the 3-year follow-up. The highest average preoperative neutrophil / lymphocyte index was found in the age group of 56 to 60 years. The age group that presented a greater percentage of patients was between 46 and 50 years old, being also the age group with the highest number of deaths at the 3-year follow-up.
