Introduction: Helicobacter pylori infection is present in approximately 80% of the general population, its relationship with alcohol consumption has not been clearly established. Objective: to analyze the association between Helicobacter pylori infection and alcohol consumption. Method: Case-control study in which 236 medical records of patients with H. pylori infection result by biopsy by upper digestive endoscopy (118 with infection and 118 controls) attended in the gastroenterology service at the Hospital Regional Docente de Cajamarca were reviewed. Odds ratio (OR) was calculated for bivariate analysis and multivariate analysis was performed using logistic regression to analyze confounding variables. Results: Alcohol consumption was more frequent in patients without H. pylori infection (24 vs. 14%), meaning a protection factor in the bivariate analysis (OR: 0.50, p=0.045); however, it did not remain significant after performing the multivariate analysis (ORa: 0.51, 95% CI: 0.26-1.01, p=0.051). Conclusion: There is no significant association between alcohol consumption and Helicobacter pylori infection.
