To determine whether moderate to severe bronchopulmonary dysplasia is related to retinopathy of prematurity type 1 (need to treat). Materials and methods: An observational, analytical, retrospective cross sectional study. In which 78 clinical histories of premature infants younger than 33 weeks and of very low weight admitted to the Neonatology service of the Hospital Regional Docente de Trujillo in the period 2015 to 2019 were evaluated. Of which 39 patients were diagnosed with moderate or severe bronchopulmonary dysplasia and 39 patients were diagnosed with mild BDP or required some type of oxygen support. Results: Of the 39 patients diagnosed with moderate to severe BPD, 53.8% had ROP type 1, while those with mild BPD or not diagnosed with BPD had a frequency of 17.9%. In the multivariate analysis, moderate to severe BPD was significantly associated with retinopathy of prematurity requiring treatment. Conclusions: Bronchopulmonary dysplasia was significantly associated with retinopathy of prematurity type 1 (need to treat)
