Determine degree of asociation to excesive gestational weight gain like risk factor to spontaneous preterm delivery in Sullana II – 2 Hospital. Methods: Was conduced a analitic, observational, retrospective, cohorts investigation. The study population was conformed for 150 pregnant women by inclusion and exclusion criteries distributed in 2 groups: excesive and adecuate gain of weihgt in pregnancy. Results: The frequencies of spontaneous preterm delivery in pregnant women with and without excesive gain of weight were 20% and 6% respectively. Relative risk to excesive gain of weight to spontaneous preterm delivery were 3.33 (p<0.05). The averages of gestational weigh gain in the group with and whithout spontaneous preterm delivery were 18.4 y 15.7 respectively. Conclusions: Excesive gestational weight gain is a risk factor to spontaneous preterm delivery. The average of gestational weigh gain in the group with spontaneous preterm delivery are sinficatively major than the group with a term delivery.
