The objective of this research was to describe the beliefs and practices for care during pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum mothers and midwives Huancas district, province of Chachapoyas, Amazonas Region, Peru - 2014. In this research the method was used qualitative study and an instrument depth interviews, which was applied to 24 mothers six midwives, between June and October 2014. All information was transcribed as verbal expression of respondents to group them into four categories and their respective subcategories: a) Signs and dangers during pregnancy enabling environment for pregnant women, loss of pregnancy, abortion caused by the failure to satisfy a food craving, hazards during pregnancy; b) Care during pregnancy and childbirth: prohibited during pregnancy beneficial foods during pregnancy, daily activities may or may not be performed during pregnancy, pregnant women clothing, preparation for labor, food attitude of the mother and the midwife with respect to time of delivery; c) Difficulties birth: difficulties during labor, delivery care, in relation to the placenta d) Postpartum care: feeding postpartum, newborn care appropriate. The results show that mothers and midwives recognize the danger signs during pregnancy and belly and hip pain, vaginal bleeding and swelling; between care during pregnancy indicate adequate food, wearing loose clothing, if you have problems you can not solve the midwife to the health resort and see pregnancy as something natural that does not stop their daily activities to which they are accustomed ; delivery usually is attended by the midwife applying the customs and beliefs of the area, including the position of pregnant women for childbirth, use of medicinal plants and the support of close relatives; care for the recovery of the mother and newborn care is provided by family members. Conceptions and perceptions of pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum Huancas community are respected by its people, and this influences maternal and child health.
