To determine whether acute kidney injury is a predictor of mortality in patients with severe sepsis in the Bethlehem Hospital of Trujillo. Material and Methods: A study of analytical, observational, retrospective, casecontrol type was carried out. The study population consisted of 336 patients diagnosed with severe sepsis; who they were divided into 2 groups: deceased and survivors. Results: The frequency of acute kidney injury in patients with severe sepsis who died was 58 %. The frequency of acute kidney injury in patients with severe sepsis who died was 38 %. Acute kidney injury is a predictor of mortality in severe sepsis with an odds ratio of 2.27 which was significant. The average serum creatinine in the group of patients with severe sepsis deaths is significantly higher in the group of survivors. Conclusions: Acute kidney injury is a predictor of mortality in patients with severe sepsis in the Bethlehem Hospital of Trujillo.
