Objective: To determine whether gestational diabetes is a risk factor to low Apgar at birth in the Pucallpa Regional Hospital. Material and Methods: We carried out an analytical, observational, retrospective, cohort study. The study population consisted of 176 pregnant women at term; which were divided into 2 groups: with or without gestational diabetes; the relative risk and chisquare test were calculated. Results: The frequency of low apgar at birth in pregnant women with gestational diabetes was 17%. The frequency of low apgar at birth in pregnant women without gestational diabetes was 7%. The Gestational diabetes is a risk factor to low Apgar at birth with a relative risk of 2.5 which was significant (p <0.05). The Uncontrolled gestational diabetes is risk factor to low Apgar at birth with a relative risk of 4.4 which was significant (p <0.05). Conclusions: The Gestational diabetes is a risk factor to low Apgar at birth in the Pucallpa Regional Hospital.
