To determine whether post-term pregnancy is a risk factor associated with low Apgar score at birth in Bethel Trujillo Hospital. Methods: Study type, observational, retrospective, case-control was performed. The study population consisted of 130 infants according to inclusion and exclusion criteria established divided into two groups: with and without low birth Apgar. Results: The frequency of post-term pregnancy in patients with and without low Apgar score at birth was 22 % and 9% respectively. The odds ratio of post-term pregnancy in relation to low Apgar score at birth is 2.69 ( p < 0.05). The average Apgar at birth in the group with post-term gestation and term were 6.2 and 8.3 respectively (p < 0.05). Conclusions: The post-term pregnancy is a risk factor associated with low Apgar score at birth. The average neonatal Apgar score of post-term pregnancies is signicantly lower than infants of pregnancies to term.
