Objective: To determine if there is an association between the type of lactation and the frequency of acute respiratory infection in infants until the year of age of the Polyclinic ““El Porvenir““. Material and methods: This is a cross-sectional, observational, analytical, retrospective study. The study population consisted of 118 infants from 1 year to 1 year 11 months 29 days of age according to inclusion criteria distributed in two groups: exclusive breastfeeding and mixed breastfeeding. Results: Mixed breastfeeding was associated with a significantly higher frequency of acute respiratory infection until the year of age (M = 2.97) compared to the exclusive breastfeeding group (M = 2.02, p <0.05, CI 95% -1.645; -0.253). Conclusion:There is an association between the type of lactation and the frequency of acute respiratory infection in infants until the year of age of the Polyclinic ““El Porvenir““. The frequency of acute respiratory infection in infants up to one year of age was lower in t he group receiving exclusive breastfeeding compared to the group receiving mixed breastfeeding.
