To determine whether mixed breastfeeding is associated with a higher proportion of overweight - obese infants compared to exclusive breastfeeding. Methods: An analytical, cross – sectional and observational study. The study population consisted of 104 infants from one year to one year 11 months 29 days of age, selected according to the established inclusion and exclusion criteria. They were divided into two groups: infants who relived exclusive breastfeeding and infants who received mixed breastfeeding. Results: Infants who received mixed breastfeeding were at greater risk of being overweight or obese at one year of age compared with infants who received exclusive breastfeeding. OR = 2.85, p <0.05, 95% confidence interval Conclusions: There is an association between the type of breastfeeding, overweight and obesity at one year of age in the polyclinic ““El Porvenir““. The group of infants who received mixed breastfeeding was at greater risk of being overweight - obese at one year of age, compared to the group that received exclusive breastfeeding.
