The frequency of blood transfusion in preterm infants without necrotizing enterocolitis was 34 %. Blood transfusion is a risk factor for necrotizing enterocolitis with an odds ratio of 8.13 which was significative.Los most common stages of necrotizing enterocolitis observed in patients exposed to blood transfusion were stage IIb; stage Ib; Stage IIa and stage Ia.
