To determine whether hyperemesis gravidarum is a risk factor for intrauterine growth retardation in the Vista Alegre Hospital. Material and Methods: The study population consisted of 246 medical records of pregnant women at term according to inclusion and exclusion criteria established divided into two groups: 19 patients with intrauterine growth retardation and 227 patients without intrauterine growth retardation Results: The frequency of patients with hyperemesis gravidarum and IUGR in our study was 10.2% and 7.7 % respectively, with a highly significant association (p < 0.001). The average number of patients with poor weight gain and anemia was significantly higher in the group of patients with IUGR (p < 0.001). Conclusions: The average of patients with hyperemesis and low weight gain if anemia are risk factors associated with intrauterine growth retardation in the Vista Alegre Hospital.
