Objective: To determine whether association between C-reactive protein and neonatal sepsis in Víctor Lazarte Echegaray Hospital period 2013. Material and Methods: We performed an analytical, retrospective, crosssectional and observational design in 110 newborns treated at the Víctor Lazarte Echegaray Hospital during the 2013 period, that were divided into 2 groups: infants with and without neonatal sepsis. For statistical analysis we used the chi square test and was considered a statistical association p value < 0,05. The odds ratio was the additional study statistician; applied to all variables but shown in the significant values. We used SPSS 20.0 statistical. Results: Infants weighing less have 4.97 times more likely to develop sepsis (p = 0.000, OR = a 4.97). Infants whose mothers had history of UTI have 3.5 times higher risk to develop neonatal sepsis. (p = 0.002, OR = 3.586). The positive CRP (p = 0.000) was associated with neonatal sepsis and gestational age (p = 0.000) was associated with neonatal sepsis and CRP. Outcomes: There is an association between C-reactive protein, neonatal sepsis, birth weight, gestational age and maternal UTI. Infants weighing less are more likely to have sepsis. Infants whose mothers had history of UTI have increased risk of neonatal sepsis. There is no association between C-reactive protein, neonatal sepsis, type of sepsis and status of membranes.
