Introduction: The significant association of acute renal injury in pregnant patients and the HELLP syndrome does not have widely described studies, so the interest to determine it in our hospital population is born. Objective: To determine if the HELLP syndrome is associated with the development of acute renal injury in patients of the Regional Teaching Hospital of Trujillo. Material and methods: A case-control study was carried out, including 80 medical records of pregnant women with acute kidney injury and 160 of pregnant women without acute kidney injury who were treated at the Regional Teaching Hospital of Trujillo. For the statistical analysis, the chi-square test was used, setting the level of significance at P <0.05 Design: Analytical investigation of cases and controls. Results: The HELLP syndrome is a factor associated with the development of acute kidney injury, it is the cases of acute kidney injury with HELLP syndrome were 11 (13.7%) while in patients without acute kidney injury who developed HELLP syndrome there are 7 (4.4%) finding statistically significant differences (p <0.05). Conclusions: HELLP syndrome OR = 3.4 is a factor associated with an increased risk of acute kidney injury
