Introduction: Through this research, the current state of the level of empathic orientation in dentistry students was known and the relationship with sociodemographic, academic and family factors was sought to improve the quality of service within the UPAO dental center. Objective: To relate empathic orientation with sociodemographic, family and academic factors. Methodology: This study was cross-sectional, descriptive, prospective and observational. The population was composed of all students from the 7th to 9th cycle enrolled in semester 202410, and the sample size was 195 students. The technique used was the survey, and the instruments were two questionnaires: one on the sociodemographic, academic and family factors of the students, and another on the Jefferson Medical Empathy Scale. Results: A significant relationship was found between the variable empathic orientation and sex (p = 0.000 < 0.05), evidencing the existence of a significant relationship between both variables. Conclusions: There was a relationship between empathic orientation and the sex factor in students from the 7th to the 9th cycle of dentistry at UPAO. The majority of the students were female, single, Catholic, and belonged to the 7th cycle. The majority did not work and came from a nuclear family, followed by a single-parent family. The majority chose the career as their first study option and had not failed the same subject more than once. The majority of the students reached a high level of empathic orientation in its three dimensions
