The purpose of this research is to examine the "dual career" of high-performance Peruvian university athletes, focusing on the balance between their academic and athletic activities. Currently, there is a growing interest in combining high-performance sports with professional training, responding to the need for comprehensive development. This combination allows athletes to progress in their studies while continuing their training, thereby addressing the challenges that athletic retirement may present in the future. The study explores the various motivations and benefits of pursuing a dual career, which are grouped into four main dimensions: social benefits, health benefits, employability benefits, and adaptability benefits post-retirement. The research is based on reviews of academic documents, mainly found in sources such as Google Scholar, ProQuest, and EBSCO, as well as interviews with university athletes, providing insights into the experience these athletes have gained in the mentioned areas. The findings highlight the importance of institutional support in facilitating the balance between study and sport, as well as the fundamental role of a support network within the athlete's social circle and the skills they acquire. In conclusion, the research highlights the importance of universities and sports organizations collaborating to support athletes in their dual careers. The implementation of comprehensive support programs enables student-athletes to have thorough and sustainable preparation, benefiting their sports performance and future professional lives, as well as contributing to the development of a new generation of athletes with a strong academic and professional background
