Several studies address the impact of tourism on the environment, but there are still few studies that address the inverse relationship, in other words, the impact of the environment on tourism activity and on the visitor's experience. The perception of environmental contamination represents an obstacle for the optimal development of tourism in coastal destinations by generating the loss of their attractiveness. This situation occurs in Chimbote Bay, which shows high levels of contamination due to industrial activity and untreated waste. On the other hand, a positive tourist experience, including experiences linked to the environment, is an opportunity for tourism growth by attracting both new and repeat visitors. The objective of this research is to determine the relationship between the perception of environmental pollution and the tourist experience and revisit intention of visitors to Chimbote Bay. A mixed methodology is used, which offers a broad and enriching perspective by combining an exploratory and descriptive qualitative phase and a descriptive and non-causal correlational quantitative phase. The results show that visitors to the destination perceive three types of environmental pollution in the bay (air, water and soil) and highlight the visibility and notoriety of the environmental problem in the area. Likewise, it is determined that there is an inverse relationship between the perception of environmental pollution with the tourist experience and with the intention to revisit the bay.
