The pandemic caused by COVID-19 has affected the socioeconomics, food insecurity and mental health of the population, generating innumerable challenges that contribute to the state of mind of society. In clinical practice, the role played by health professionals has been crucial in dealing with the virus. However, their mental health has been adversely affected and may incur psychological damage. In this sense, the leader of each team is faced with the need to seek new alternatives that promote the work commitment of the staff. For this reason, the present research is aimed at determining whether the emotional intelligence of the leader significantly influences the work commitment of the medical staff of the main private clinics in Metropolitan Lima during the health crisis caused by COVID-19. To determine this, the research employs a quantitative approach, of explanatory scope and non-experimental design, which was applied by means of a Likert scale survey to 277 physicians of various specialties. The Wong and Law Scale (WLEIS) and the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES) were used as measurement instruments. The final results showed that the leader's emotional intelligence has a strong relationship with work engagement (0.951) and its dimensions, which are supported by information from the literature.
