Introduction: ASD children are at high nutritional risk due to their food selectivity, leading them to a higher consumption of high-calorie foods and lower of fruits and vegetables. Additionally, the family can encourage both healthy and unhealthy eating behaviors. Objective: Determine the quality of diet and eating habits in children between 3 to 10 years old with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), Lima, Peru, 2022-2023. Methods: An exploratory quantitative cross-sectional study was carried out, applying a questionnaire to mothers of children from 3 to 10 years old with ASD. Diet quality was measured based on compliance with portions per day per CENAN food group, while the measurement of eating habits was based on the child's behaviors and attitudes at the time of eating. Results: More than 50% of children with ASD (n=105) presented insufficient consumption for most of the food groups, with the exception of cereals, tubers and beans, and ultra-processed foods. On the other hand, 61.9% have special behaviors when eating and 65.7% are not involved in food selection. Finally, fried foods were the favorite preparation of 83.3% and meat, poultry, fish and eggs and fruits were the preferred food groups. Conclusions: Children with ASD presented insufficient consumption in 6 of the 8 food groups and more than half have special eating behaviors and marked food preferences.
