This research investigates the hydraulic behavior of the Rímac River in Chosica, with the aim of proposing mitigation measures to reduce the risk of flooding in the area. To do this, computational tools such as ArcGis and HEC-RAS are used to model flood projections in a section of the river. The study begins with a review of the existing literature on the topic, which highlights the importance of water management and flood prevention in vulnerable areas such as Chosica. The theoretical and methodological framework used in the study is presented below, which includes the collection of topographic and hydrological data, hydraulic modeling of the river and the evaluation of mitigation measures. The hydraulic analysis is carried out using the HEC-RAS software, which allows simulating the behavior of the river in different scenarios. Flow data provided by SENAHMI are used, although it is recognized that these may have a margin of error. A 3.5 km long section of the river is modeled, spanning from the Huaycoloro bridge to the Ricardo Palma bridge. The results of the hydraulic analysis show that the Chosica area is highly vulnerable to flooding, especially in times of intense rain. The flood zone is determined, which is the area that would be affected by a flood of a certain magnitude. Different mitigation measures are evaluated, such as the construction of dams and the widening of the river channel, and it is concluded that these can significantly reduce the risk of flooding in the area.
