Land transportation is one of the main axes of development and growth of any country. However, several factors prevent the full and efficient development of this important resource. Due to urban population density results in traffic congestion as one of the biggest negative consequences for cities without strengthening urban governance and planning. The annual increase in the fleet corresponds to the need of more people whose main need is to move from one place to another for various reasons. One way to measure the quality of a transportation system is its travel time. In Latin America, the average travel time is 64 minutes. This statistic includes the city of Lima, where the average travel time is 82 minutes. Traffic jams in the city of Lima are caused by damaged roads, poor urban planning, bad driving habits, ignorance of traffic signs, etc. Therefore, this work evaluated and proposed a solution for an important intersection at the intersection of Avenida Nestor Gambetta and Avenida B, which reflects the factors mentioned above. Through microsimulation using the Vissim 9 software, the objective of which was to represent vehicle traffic in the conditions described above, and through geometric redesign and actuated traffic lights, it is intended to reduce current vehicle delays by up to 20% and guarantee the improving the quality of service at intersections.
