The topic of the study is debated, both because of known contradictory results, and because of the usefulness it could have for the management of social network [SN] addictions. This study relates SN addiction and social skills [SS] and seeks to determine whether SS influence SN addiction. It’s an associative study of predictive type and correlational design, with a non-probabilistic sample of 142 secondary school students from Tacna-Peru (52% female, aged 14-17 years, M=15.5) who were administered the ARS questionnaire (Escurra & Salas, 2014) and the Goldstein Social Skills Questionnaire (Tomás & Lescano, 2003). Negative correlations were found between the dimensions of both instruments, although they were small in size. The regression analysis identified that Obsession with SN weakly predicted changes in SS; and that the dimensions of SS alternative to violence and proamicales predicted changes in the factors in the use of SN. The comparative analysis found that those who use SN more frequently have higher scores in ARS. On the other hand, no differences were found according to sex or level of studies, both in ARS and SS. It is concluded that the higher the scores in the ARS dimensions, the lower the scores in SS; that, the longer the time of SN use, the more likely addiction; and that, in a causal analysis, the effects are very weak.
