In Peru, 60% of all managers are women who play the role of pedagogical leaders in school spaces. Considering the relevance of this position, in this research, we are interested in knowing the perceptions of women directors regarding the motivations, the characteristics of leadership and the difficulties of their role. To achieve this objective, a phenomenological qualitative research was carried out. A semi-structured interview was applied to 5 female directors of public management at the Initial Level in Metropolitan Lima. As a result of the investigation, the following was identified. The motivations of the directives to enter and remain in office are to promote educational quality and revalue public education. On the other hand, they perceive that women work with dedication and that they perform several tasks simultaneously. Among the difficulties, they point out that the management position is demanding and that it is complex with the family role, and that they continuously respond to social expectations.
