The present work aims to determinate the effects of different kinds of health insurance on accessing depression treatment for adults with this disease in Peru between 2013 and 2019. To this end, data was selected from the ENDES survey, and such effects were estimated using binary choice models. However, selecting only adults with depression from the original sample originated sample bias. Thus, heckprobit methodology was used instead of regular logit or probit. Results show that general, public and EsSalud insurance are all correlated with an increased probability of accessing treatment. On the contrary, SIS insurance turned out to be non-significant. Sociodemographic factors which increase access probability were the wealth index, years of education and being a woman. Neither the age nor living in a rural area had significant marginal effects.
