The transmedia narrative has transformed the way of telling a story in advertising. Against this and with a strong influence on the part of the cinema, video games have adopted trailers as the main element of advertising. Such is the case of the launch campaign for Mortal Kombat 11, which takes social media as its main means of dissemination, especially Facebook and YouTube. In the development of this campaign, narrative compression and expansion strategies are present, which have a direct impact on the perception of gamers. This allows them to take the message as their own and give themselves the freedom to create their own content, such as fanarts, summaries, theories, among others, that manage to expand the narrative universe of Mortal Kombat. The objective of this research is to analyze what is the perception of gamers about compression and expansion narrative strategies in the launch trailers of Mortal Kombat 11 (2018 – 2020).
