In this work we have studied materials suitable to be used as an absorbing layer in thin-film solar cells. Photovoltaic materials based in CuIn (1-x) Ga(x) Se2 (CIGS) are now conventionally used the solar panel industry. They have a low toxicity and are more abundant in nature compared to the most common materials in the photovoltaic industry. In this work we have made contributions related to the synthesis of the compound used in thin films of CuIn (1-x) Ga(x)Se2 by the spin-coating technique, varying the concentration x of Ga. At the same time, we carried out structural, optical and morphological characterizations of the material using techniques like: X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform spectroscopy (FTIR), UV-Visible Spectro-photometry (UV-Vis), and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). Finally, we determined the efficiency of the absorbing-layer CuIn(0.5)Ga(0.5)Se2 solar cell through the use of the J-V curve, arriving at the value of 0.6%. This is smaller than the efficiencies measured in previous works. We attribute this result to the presence of trap states on the absorbing layer, which impede the transfer of electrons to the external circuit.
