Background: The sense of coherence (SOC) allows people to identify manageable, meaningful and predictable situations and is therefore considered a stress moderator. The period of pregnancy is a stressful situation for the mother. Even planned pregnancies become a source of stress, whose process of adaptation will be influenced by how a woman lives each stage of the process. Objectives: Determine the relationship between SOC and the perception of stress in young mothers in the city of Lima Methods: 150 mothers between 19 and 25 years old (M= 22.27; SD= 2.26) from Lima city participated. The Life Orientation Questionnaire (OLQ/SOC 13) and the Perceived Stress Scale (EEP-14) were applied. Results: r = -.82 was obtained, with a p = .00 (p< .05) which indicates that both variables are inversely and significantly correlated. Discussion: the hypothesis that the higher the SOC, the lower the perception of stress, and the higher the SOC, the higher the coping with stressors was tested.
