The role of the interpreter has been studied in many occasions. However, the role and function of the interpreter in television, specifically in reality television shows, has not been addressed. Most studies have focused on news programmes and live interviews that include interpreters (in some cases, these interpreters appear in the scenes). Therefore, this research has two reality television shows as subjects of study: Tidying Up with Marie Kondo and The Final Table. Both of them have interpreters as part of the cast. This study, based on a multimodal analysis of auditive and visual components, analyses the representation and role of the interpreter in reality television. The methodology of this study is qualitative and both subjects of the study will be analyzed as independent case studies.
