Background: Depression is a growing global problem. Peru ranks third in disability due to depression in the Americas. Objective: To estimate the frequency of depressive syndrome in people aged 15 years and older during 2023 in Peru, associated factors, and geospatial distribution. Methods and Materials: Secondary, descriptive, and correlational study of the ENDES 2023 in a sample of 34,536 people (15-97 years). Adjustment was performed for complex samples, univariate analysis for population characteristics, bivariate analysis between the presence of depressive syndrome and selected variables; and multivariate analysis using Poisson regression. Results: The prevalence of depressive syndrome in the last 14 days was 7.85% (95% CI 7.36-8.38) and 11.95% (95% CI 11.34-12.59) in the last 12 months. The 3 departments with the highest prevalence in the last 14 days were Huancavelica (13.35%), Puno (11.23%) and Junín (10.79%). The related variables were female sex (RPa: 2.39), older adult (RPa: 1.43), being married (RPa: 0.65), cohabiting (RPa: 0.52) or widowed (RPa: 0.73), not having attended school (RPa: 1.65), having completed primary school (RPa: 1.45), university (RPa: 0.64) or postgraduate (RPa: 0.4), rural (RPa: 0.77), rest of the Coast (RPa: 0.80) or the Jungle (RPa: 0.63), not having smoked cigarettes in the last year (RPa: 0.71) and domestic violence (RPa: 2.49). Conclusion: We did not find evidence to suggest that there is a difference in prevalence with respect to 2022. There is a greater probability of suffering from depressive symptoms in women, people who have not attended school or have only finished primary school, have suffered domestic violence and older adults.
